COVANCE HARROGATE, UK SUPPORTS LOCAL BUSINESSES
On Friday, Jan. 27 the first on-site staff market at Covance Harrogate, UK was held. Twelve local suppliers were invited to sell their goods to over 1300 employees on-site.
Stalls included a mixture of food and gifts plus a sample of clothing and sporting goods. Due to the success of this initial event, it has been agreed to hold further markets on a monthly basis.
The market complements a staff discount card initiative introduced in December 2011. The card, issued to all Harrogate employees, allows them to obtain discounts and special offers at over 40 Yorkshire-based businesses and outlets. It is expected that the number of businesses will increase during the year.
The Leader of Harrogate Council said, "It is very encouraging to see one of Harrogate's key employers supporting local businesses and enterprise in this way. I know this is one of a number of initiatives that Covance is working on and wish all involved success in this and the other ideas I have been hearing about."
Covance Harrogate's General Manager added, “This is the beginning of a new set of employee engagement initiatives and the fact that we can help support our local economy makes it a win win for all. We look forward to continuing to work with local businesses.”
