Immunology and Immunotoxicology

My passion for immunology stemmed from my first exposure to the study of immunology in an introductory Immunology course. Once I was proficient in the basic concepts, I was fortunate to expand into the research laboratory through independent research projects as well as an internship at Johns Hopkins University.  This exposure to immunology research inspired me to pursue a graduate program in biomedical research. I received my PhD from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where I studied the role of the protein kinase GSK3 in autoimmune neuroinflammation. During my post-doctoral research, I gained experience in the field of neuro-oncology by studying the role of protein kinase CK2 in glioblastoma brain tumor initiating cells. Although I greatly enjoyed basic immunology research, I realized I wanted to take part in more translational research where I could have a greater impact in advancing science and medicine; this led me to pursue a career at Covance.

My career at Covance began with my passion for the study of immunology and appreciation of Covance’s success in the drug development process. At Covance, I was able to bolster the assay development skills I obtained from my prior research experience in studying immunological diseases. Covance has given me the opportunity to be a key team player in diverse projects and helped me gain an in-depth appreciation for a breadth of scientific and regulatory aspects of pre-clinical assay design. While at Covance, I have had the opportunity to collaborate with outstanding scientists, both internally as colleagues and externally as clients, to discuss assay development and scientific approach. The work I am involved in at Covance is exciting and challenging, but most of all rewarding. I am honored to be a part of the Covance team, helping to assess drug candidates and bring them to market where they can benefit the lives of many.
