Early Development

Somerset, NJ
I am deeply passionate about the health and wellbeing of humans, animals and the ecosystem. This passion propelled me to pursue my B.S. and M.S. in Fisheries Science, before moving to the USA to further my education. I received my PhD in Microbiology at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, Jackson, Mississippi. In graduate school, I contributed immensely to several projects that focused on B and T cell signaling and anti-viral cytotoxic mechanisms in channel catfish, Ictalurus punctatus. During my PhD, I was fascinated by how the recognition of a pathogen by the innate immune system leads to a robust and strong adaptive immune response.

I joined Chicago Medical School for my Postdoctoral research training where I have worked extensively on the role of inflammasomes, innate sensors located in the cytoplasm, during infection and vaccination. We used various bacterial pathogens such as Burkholderia pseudomallei, Francisella tularensis, and Citrobacter rodentium to decipher host-pathogen interactions and host-tolerance mechanisms in mice. Later, as a senior research associate at the same institute, I led research efforts to study the role of a proton pump, vacuolar ATPase (a2V) in innate immunity and cancer in mice.

I have always loved and admired basic science research, discovering novel pathways and hoped that someday it would have meaningful impact on the health of humans. However, with more experience I realized that I could have more impact by being part of a team that performs translational research and specializes in assessing immunotoxicity of drugs and chemicals. Therefore, I joined Envigo, which later merged with Covance to expand its drug development capabilities.

At Covance, I am very enthusiastic to be working with a team of highly dedicated and skilled personnel in a regulated environment. It also provides a unique opportunity for me to contribute immensely with my broad set of expertise to a fast-paced research team with a cutting-edge technology platform progressing to novel drug discoveries. I have had the opportunity to collaborate with internal colleagues and external clients who continuously strive to make an impact on the health and wellbeing of humans, animals and the ecosystem. I am committed to continue this extremely satisfying endeavor in the future.
